Red Rocks EDM Guide: Parking, Bags, Weather, Exit

Facts checked against the sources below on 2026-10-18.

Quick answer Get there early, park where staff tell you, and expect a hike and a lot of stairs. Pack light: one small bag, layers, a poncho, an empty water bottle. After the show, walk down to the Jurassic Lot for your ride. Rules below are as of Oct 2026. Venue policies change, so recheck before your show.

Red Rocks is our favorite place to hear bass. It is also an outdoor venue at 6,450 feet with a steep walk in. A little prep makes the night better. This is what we tell friends before their first one.

How do I get to Red Rocks?

The address is 18300 W. Alameda Parkway, Morrison, CO 80465 [1]. Red Rocks is owned and operated by the City and County of Denver [7].

Most people drive or rideshare. The venue's own page lists carpooling through the DRCOG WayToGo program and private bus services as options [1]. We could not find an official evening transit option on the venue's site, so plan on having a ride both ways.

Where do I park, and is it free?

For most shows, parking is included [4]. Lots open two hours before door time [1]. Staff guide you to a space once you enter the park, and the venue recommends arriving early [1].

Your space may be a real walk from the gates. The venue says you might need to hike from where you park, so wear comfortable shoes [1]. Overflow goes to the Jurassic Lot, about a mile from the South Gate [4].

Don't leave your car overnight. Vehicles parked wrong or left past 10 a.m. the next day can be ticketed or towed [1].

    Are there shuttles?

Yes, inside the park. Complimentary shuttles carry people from farther lots to the amphitheatre gates, and signs mark the pickup points [1].

Rideshare and limo drop-offs happen at the Top Circle Lot (limo and shuttle buses) or at the Upper North Lot and the Red Rocks Park Road and Trading Post Road intersection (ride services) [4].

    What is the bag policy?

Everything you bring has to fit under your seat (18" x 12") [3]. Bags are inspected at the gates, so open them up and be ready [3].

    • Allowed: single-pocket and clear bags up to 13" x 15" x 8", and small purses or fanny packs up to 6" x 9" [3].
    • Not allowed: multi-pocket bags and anything bigger than 13" x 15" x 8" [3].

Management has the final say on any item [3]. Skip the bag if you can. Phone, ID, card, keys, done.

What can I bring in, and what gets turned away?

As of Oct 2026, the venue's list says [3]:

    • Water: empty reusable bottles up to 32 oz are fine. So are hydration packs up to 2L if they are empty and have no more than one pocket besides the reservoir.
    • Drinks: factory-sealed, non-alcoholic drinks up to 32 oz are allowed unless a show says no. Glass, aluminum cans and alcohol are not.
    • Food: in a clear plastic bag of one gallon or less.
    • Blankets and cushions: blankets up to 40" x 60" that stay in your seating area. Stadium seats under 18" wide with no legs.
    • Cameras: point-and-shoot without removable lenses is okay. GoPros, 360 cameras, cameras with removable lenses, selfie sticks and drones are not.
    • Also banned: confetti, glitter, stickers, bubbles, inflatables, flow toys, full-face masks, strollers, umbrellas, tarps, camping mats and laser pointers.
    • Medication: bring only what you need for the show, in the original labeled container [3].

Rave gear is where people get caught. Flow toys and glitter are on the banned list, so leave them in the car or at home [3]. Individual shows can add rules, so check your event page.

Is Red Rocks general admission or reserved?

It depends on the show. Your ticket shows your seat, and seating charts vary by event [4]. All seating is wooden benches with concrete walkways [4]. The venue also notes you can only sit in your ticketed seat, and seat saving is not allowed [2].

If your show has GA, arrive early. The venue says nearly 10,000 people may be trying to get in and find seats at the same time [2]. Bring a stadium cushion if you want one, since the benches are hard [3][4].

    How bad is the altitude?

The venue sits at 6,450 feet, and the venue's advice is to drink plenty of water and take your time on the stairs [2]. There are a lot of stairs [2].

For context, the CDC says altitude illness is a risk above 8,000 feet [6]. Red Rocks is below that, but if you are flying in from sea level, you will still notice it. For trips above 8,000 feet, the CDC advises avoiding alcohol and heavy exercise for at least the first 48 hours, and says the mildest altitude sickness shows up as headache, tiredness, lack of appetite, nausea and vomiting [6]. Treat that as general advice. If you feel bad at the show, find staff or the first aid room [3].

    What is the weather like?

Colorado does what it wants. Venue staff say shows run in full sun, strong wind, and even severe rain or snow [2]. Their tips are to dress in layers, bring a poncho and wear sunscreen [2].

Umbrellas are banned, so the poncho matters [3]. For day-of weather alerts, text RRWEATHER to 67283 [4]. If the venue tells you to take shelter, usually that means your vehicle, or the Visitor Center at the top if you don't have one [2][4].

Can I leave and come back in?

No. Once your ticket is scanned, you can't re-enter, except for a weather-related or medical emergency [4]. Handle your phone charge, snacks and jacket before you walk in.

    What time should I arrive?

Doors vary by show. Check the event listing for the door time [4]. On concert days the amphitheatre usually closes to the public around 2 p.m. and the box office opens four hours before showtime [4]. Parking opens two hours before doors [1]. For a big EDM night, aim to be parked at that two-hour mark.

How do I leave after the show?

Rideshare, taxi and private pickups happen at the Jurassic Lot, just inside Entrance 2 off Hwy 93 [1]. The venue recommends walking downhill via the Will Call Trail, then down Red Rocks Park Road [1].

Limited free shuttles run from Top Circle Lot and the Trading Post to the Jurassic Lot, but the venue encourages walking since shuttle loops cause delays [1]. Expect a slow exit either way. Tell your driver where to meet you before the last song.

    What about accessibility?

Wheelchair-accessible seating is in Row 1 and Row 70, and you pick it at purchase [5]. Accessible parking needs a valid placard or plate, and an accessible shuttle runs from the Upper South Lot during ticketed events [5]. For event-day assistance, call 720-865-2494 ext. 3 [5].

    What should I pack?

Our short list (advice, not rules):

    • Phone fully charged.
    • ID and card in your pocket.
    • Layers and a poncho [2].
    • Comfortable shoes you can climb stairs in [1][2].
    • Ear protection. Bass at an outdoor venue is still loud.
    • An empty bottle to fill inside [3].
